Removing epoxy coating off cylinders

Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:26 pm

I've got several 40+ year old cylinders of which the epoxy coating has starting pealing off below the neck caused by the numerous hydro stamps. They're becoming rather gnarly looking and I was thinking about stripping off the entire coating. Is it safe to do a light sandblast job or will this destroy the galvanized steel surface. I bought these tanks new in 1973 and would like to give them a facelift.

I've got a stiff putty knife that I put a razor's edge on and scraped one clean. Not sure about sand blasting.... probably not.

What about having the cylinders "Soda Blasted." Thoughts anyone?
