Little Tanks... My Collection Grows

- Above left: Mini made from a CO2 tank (~18 cf at 1800 psi). Above right: Original Nemrod 27 (27 cf at 2250 psi)... Repainted and decaled in USD style w/custom harness. Nemrod was originally orange with orange plastic backpack... Great for taking girls diving in High School. My wife was the only girl who could clear her ears and dive with me.

- Above: Latest acquisition, brand new XS Steel 27 cf 3000 psi tank... Got a deal I couldn't pass up...

Neat little tanks,

This is a subject of considerable interest because my wife is quite small. I gave her SCUBA lessons the year before we were married, and we have now been married 35 years. She loves this vintage diving as much as I do. I just got her a nice 38 made in 1955. She now dives a Mistral.

- I bet she's going to love diving that 38. I got one from Rob and it is light to carry, nearly neutral to dive (I dove it with no weights and no wet suit)... And the dive time is perfect for most of my lake dives... 38 cf gives me at least a half hour dive at my average lake diving depth of 16-20 feet... Who needs to carry around more?
- With regard to my little tank collection, there's quite a HUGE difference in the weight of those two little 1800 psi tanks and the brand new XS 27 cf tank... Even though they're very close in physical size. Even the slight larger Nemrod 27 is not has heavy as the XS. More steel in the high pressure XS (3000+ psi) but, the extra weight doesn't make it anywhere near as attractive for small divers. My 4 year old grandson was nearly neutral when he dove in with the little white tank. He'd sink like a rock with this little XS tank.
- Its at the hydrotesting center right now but, I wouldn't be surprised if it weighs close to the same as a vintage 38 or 42 cf tank (1800-1880psi).
- I'm thinking this XS tank might serve better as a bailout bottle for full size divers.
