Storage & Transport for my Kraken!

Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:31 pm

After reading a thread talking about a Kraken being shattered I suddenly felt ill.
I couldn't rest until I found a means of safeguarding mine.
I found one! Behold! The Kraken's Cave!

I found this at Harbor Freight for $54.

Nice safe storage, but a word of warning: Do not keep it in there closed up until it is "beyond dry", or have desiccant packs in there, and open frequently to check them. You will grow some interesting things on it, thinking it is dry....

I agree. The hoses need to be removed from the reg, thoroughly flushed after any dive or dive trip (I don't do it from day to day on a week trip) and thoroughly dried. I do not reinstall them until I am ready to dive again.

Understood!
I put my hoses on using Herbie clips.
Makes for easy removal and replacement.

What size? Do you have a link to a decent vendor?

TIA,

I found the 1st ones I bought on Ebay.
The original Mfg. and vendor is here http://www.rotocon.com/shoponline2.html
I used the 1" for the can horns.
The regular mouth piece and hoses use the 1-1/2".
The DSV and Kraken Hoses still need to be measured before I order clips for it.

Thanks for the great tip. They work great and I no longer dread losing hose clamp nuts when I remover the loop to hang for rinsing and drying.

I bought a variety pack to check the fit on various regulators.

Using new silicone hoses on a standard USD horn (in this case a Mistral), the rotocon hose clamp identified with the letter "M" was a good fit, the "L" closed, but only engaged two teeth.

For the mouthpiece clamp - the rotocon hose clamp identified with the letter "T" was a good fit, the "S" closed, but only engaged two teeth.

I'll include a few pictures, if anyone is interested.
