The Mermaids of Tiburon

Sun Feb 28, 2010 4:36 pm // 9 comments // ivan's mermaid

Rob, Allan, Debbie and I had lunch today at a really nice restaurant.

Rob, says it was Mermaid Laden. I of course, can't get enough of Mermaid "crap" as Rob calls it. I'm just saying.

There were a couple of movie posters one of course from Splash with Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah, we've all seen that one.

But, there was one that appeard to be vintage so I've searched and found this link to a video.

Has anyone seen this, do you know where we might be able to get a copy?

Quick trip report with Silent World

Sun Feb 28, 2010 2:05 pm // 4 comments // Herman

I just got back from doing 8 dives with Silent World in Key Largo. I was diving the Phoenix with the Zeagle Express Tech BC. The Phoenix got no negative feedback from the crew but a lot of interest from some of the other divers. As it turns out, Capt Bob is a DH user from days of old and AJ, a younger capt expressed interest in getting a DH. AJ remembered me from last year....or more correctly he remembered the Phoenix with the yellow hoses. While they may not be totally vintage friendly they have no issues with a DH paired with some modern attachements.

The Horsecollar Era

Fri Feb 26, 2010 10:39 pm // 11 comments // Nemrod

A thought came up from another forum member, why not use 1980 as a vintage cutoff--lol. (as I duck and cover and run  )

But, no way, is 1980 vintage, why not 1990? Heck, just make it 2004. But then I realized something, the period from about 72 until the early 80s, about a ten year period, the horsecollar BC was THE BC. Yeah, there were a few early wings, a few jackets like the Scubapro Stab vest but largely divers used the horsecollar BC. So, I guess there could be a "Horsecollar Era" which is not really vintage but still distinct from the "modern" way of diving today with poodle jackets, weight integration and the whole enchilada. Just thinking out loud, which usually gets me in trouble.

At SD it seems due to boat requirements we will all be required to have a BC, alternate air or octopus and a spg etc and so we are all out digging in the trash cans for a horsecollar BC. Lucky me that I have one even if I don't have a mask:lol: . So, strictly speaking, no BC with a power inflator is really vintage now is it :?: so we will not be Vintage Era diving. We will be-------Horsecollar Era, hey, it is better than Luis using eclectic or electric or such :P

Look, it is winter, I am bored, nobody to irritate but you guys.
