I'll be up Thursday evening, for diving on Friday, but will only be there for an abbreviated Saturday, as a good friend's bride planned their wedding for the evening of the 8th, and I need to bug out in order to make it back for the wedding and reception. Should be accompanied by the wife and possibly the one son staying in Ohio this summer, if his work schedule permits.

Gilboa on Friday sounds good to me, as does White Star as an alternative.

Yeah; it's really sad to see Portage close. The Legends event was a lot of fun and I'll always have some very fond memories of the times we spent at Portage. I wish the very best for Jeff and Monica, and am very Thankful for the great times that they provided for us there. Looking forward to seeing all of you in a few weeks! 8) Terry

What a shame. The first time I had a drink with Bob Croft was at that quarry. I really loved that place. It makes me sad to think that we won't have another event there. We used to camp there too.

Not sure where the weekend will take us but I guess we will see. As far as I know the plan it is Gilboa on Friday and White Star on Sat, Sun........I am unfamiliar with either but it gives us time to explore what is possible for next year at both places.
According to my connection at the Kemps Dairy, Gilboa has given the OK to swap and sell items on Friday.......As far as I know, no clearance has been given for swap and sell at White Star....I'm sure it will go on but keep it on the QT. There is always plenty of time for it after dinner back at the motel though!

I will be driving straight to Gilboa on Friday and should be there with enough time to get in a few dives. How cold will the below thermocline water be? I checked the websites and Facebook pages for both quarries and didn't see conditions listed. Mermet Springs is still cold (like 44-46 degrees) below 55 ft so are we talking the same conditions? It will help with wetsuit choices (to go along with my "bio-prene"). Thanks, Mike

Water temp in both Gilboa and White Star was low 70s in the surface layer, dropping to too cold for me (50s maybe) below the thermocline at 25-27'.
Gilboa vis was 30ish, White Star 10-15ish.

Both are still "Holes in the ground, filled with water, in which junk has been placed".

Both images taken with same camera/strobes, relatively same depth and distance from subjects:

As Allan would know, the camera/strobe is too far away from the subject to make any difference. Can't make it this year so I'll have to settle for the 100+ foot viz in Lake Michigan. Yeah, it's colder, but I'll dress for it. 48 on the Schooner Northerner last night at 110 fow. Have fun everyone.......................
