22 April offshore diving!

Mon Apr 02, 2012 2:24 pm

Capn Tucker, the Wife, and I will be going offshore from Fernandina Beach if you want to join us on the 22nd of April. Diver's Den of Georgia is doing the charter. Vintage gear friendly (the real kind, we don't need no steenking dive computers). We don't care what you want to dive, or what gear you use. Come join us!

Whats the offshore diving like there? Is the temp 75 or better ?

Where would be a good place to stay? Rob is kind of picky, at least 4****. We are trying to coordinate our flights so that we only need one rental car. Are there places to rent tanks and weights close?

Sure:

http://www.diversdengeorgia.com/

This is the shop that we use. They rent ranks, nitrox, all the usual stuff. They also put the stuff on the boat for you if you need tanks.

Our company uses this place, and it gets good reviews:

It's like 85 a night, and it is nice.

If you prefer someplace a little more southern, then I would stay at one of these places:

Prices range from 200-400 a night, but they are wonderful.

That should about cover it. You can get a rental car at the airport. I recommend Hertz as they offer President's Circle awards if you rent enough. We could eat some great seafood at a couple of local places afterwards, and we could also grab a craft beer at one of the oldest bars in America, The Palace Saloon in Fernandina Beach :)

Water temps are low 70's right now. I personally would wear a full 7mm suit, but I'm a warm water wheenie. The charter is usually 150 bucks for three tanks. We would have the whole boat to ourselves. You guys know that viz is a crap shoot. Sometimes we have 50 feet, sometimes we have 15-20, and sometimes it sucks.

There is no way I can go, just thought Simonbeans would be all over it with his retirement time and all. I still have to go to work.

Thanks for the info. Seeing as how I can not make it to Sand Dog, I was considering a quick trip to warmer climes. Although for me, it is a day by day decision process, I always like to have plans in place, just in case. Just the old public educator left over from my working days. Be prepared for all possibilites.
Hopefully the info you kindly gave will assist any who might consider diving with ya'll in a much more warmer water local that what we have here in the north.
