August Portage Legends Weekend

Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:10 pm

Some close friends within our vintage equipment diving community are aware I once made a modest living as a singer/songwriter and entertainer. Whenever asked to consider performing at previous gatherings, my response has been "it might be possible sometime" and left at that.

Today, I'm pleased to announce arrangements have been made and I plan on performing during the Legends Weekend at Portage Quarry Ohio, Saturday evening. Exact time of the performance is to be announced at the event.

I'm looking forward to performing original material from two CDs including the 1980s American Song Festival award contribution,"Whales a Vanishing Breed" along with the NCRA theme song "Crab Races" and others. I also hope to try my hand at a variety of popular songs from other artists that I hope are recognizable.

I think we're all bringing some adult beverages, and childlike enthusiasm for Legends weekend, a chance to dive with and talk to our heros. I can't wait to hear Gary's musical talent in action (I've already seen some of his video of last year's event - Creature Feature).

I was up at Portage a couple of weeks ago, Jeff Rice was out and about, checking my vintage gear and showing me some interesting new additions to his collection.

Hey all,

I managed to get some time off work for the first time this year, and I will be at Portage.

What is everyone drinking these days :) Any special requests? I have also prepared several lies to tell whilst I am there. All wrecks are deeper, all fish are larger, and all my gear is more authentic.

Beer, all flavors welcome!

Rum, the darker the better!

Best to stay away from the Tequila, if we want to remember what went on at Portage.

Sorry to all that I missed Portage this year. My heart is broken. My niece, Kaitlyn, that was at Portage last year is in my custody now, and I had to register her for school, and get that taken care of. I am sure I missed a great time, and if you guys post some photos, I'd be very happy to see them....Yeah Brian, I took Kaitlyn's double hose regulator out of the museum and have it here for her, and we're going to the pool soon to practice vintage skills! She loves it..

For those of us that attended Portage Quarry Legends this weekend we were treated to a full hour and a half of Gary David Reece singing and playing guitar for the crowd. He was absolutly awesome and I would like to compliment Gary and say thanks for all the practice and hard work he put in to making this happen. He is truly a very talented musician. Thanks again Gary for the concert. It made the weekend worth while!! :D
Hoepfully we will see some photos here shortly.

From the stories I'm hearing I missed a really good time too.

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to attend, I am still having issues with my sinus and ears. I have a follow up doctor appointment this afternoon. Gotta get this cleared up.

Can't wait to see more photos, and Gary, you look "marvelous"....
