Haskel Questions

Mon Oct 04, 2010 3:59 pm

Anyone using a Haskel with a small cascade system? I have acquired one for a future venture but I'm looking for some tips/pointers/course of direction on how to best utilize one. Every shop I worked at that used one was on a huge bank system and was not used that often...Or it was used to top off high pressure cylinders while the compressor was being repaired.

Thanks
Bryan
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

At the dive store that I DM we have a haskel that is used to top off high pressure cylinders. Currently the compressor can do 5000 psi, but the storage tanks, 2 very large ones, are only good to 3100. So we use the haskel to bring up tanks to 3500 psi. We do not fill the high pressure paint ball tanks as they are not worth the expenditure. The first haskel we used was only air driven. The current one uses electricity. The latest one can fill a tank from 3100 to 3500 in very short order. If you have more direct questions, email me and I can get you in touch with the shop owner who understands the entire compressor/storage tanks/haskel process far better than I.

I've heard these refered to as air amps. A device used to boost the pressure of your compressor. Here's the link....

I've got a 2 stage Haskel. I use mine primarily for mixed gas fills. I can boost oxygen to over 3000 lbs and get every last drop out of my O2 bottles. Mine is air driven, I power it with a scuba tank. A lot of people use a large shop compressor for drive gas. Takes about 150 psi to drive it.

Just our of curiosity though, has anyone ever ordered the airspeed press book about boosters? Is it recommended?
