When Vintage Diving Wasn't Vintage
Image
- Sea Hunt Jerry sent me this group photo of one of our recent vintage diving get togethers at Wazee... NOT! Ha ha. But look at the huge turnout of enthusiast divers from yesteryear... Diving a quarry from a muddy access slope. Vintage or modern, it would be tough to draw that many divers to get together these days.

WOW; does that photo bring back some memories of those days of yesteryear! :D It reminds me of the size of the gatherings we would have at Fenton Lake in Fenton, Michigan when we had The "BEER DIVE CONTEST" sponsored by The Michigan Skin Divers Association. Yep that's what I said Swimjim; a BEER DIVE CONTEST! 8) The lake bottom was seeded with weighted red, white and blue tokens and at the sound of the starting pistol everyone hit the water. You had an hour to collect as many tokens as you could find and then turn them in at the end of the contest. Red was worth 3 beers or the cash equivalency if you were under age, blue 2 beers or cash, and white 1 beer or cash. Needless to say there were many HAPPY divers at the end of the day. Boy those were good times; but I also very much enjoy the vintage gatherings we are now having today. Great picture Jerry and Eben. Thanks for the memories! :D

This is obviously from the days before a 60% uplift of junk food weight and video game soyboy hermits populated the planet. As for the Beer Dive, the SJW crowd (besides having their heads explode at looking at it) would probably have several things to say about this picture, including a lack of diversity of various ethnic groups, women being under-represented AND the out and out purveying of an archaic Alpha Male Beer guzzling white culture patriarchy, and so on and so on ad nauseum!!!. MAN, I wish I had a time machine, The reason for not having events like this anymore is boiled down to lawyers, litigation and PC socialism. And we all know socialists love to screw with anyone having good clean fun.......

Here is my official PC proviso now given........ Just kidding, Ha, Ha, HA!

PS; It is a wonderful photo.

Bringing an umbrella to a SCUBA dive...Even back then, there was one in every crowd.
I was usually the one!

It's interesting how long some of those hose loops are. I find most of my DH regs have too short hoses, except the DSV/Kraken hose loops I use on my HydroTwin II and Snark III Silver. Some of them are so tight they're uncomfortable.
