I almost missed it! SeaHunt Jerry called me as I was arriving home last night and reminded me it was on. Excellent show. I've Ben Hellwarth's book and seen the old Navy movies that were posted on YouTube. I was pleasantly surprised at all of the new video and how good it all looked.

Did you all see that Hope Page mouthpiece with the gold rings?

I saw the Hope Page. I was wondering what reg it was on. That was on the original Sealab, so I wonder if a diver used his own DivAir. They were as good as anything else at the time. Maybe better.

Dangit, forgot about it. The book is one of my favorites, was the movie close?

Thanks David. I was disappointed to have missed it on the scheduled date, and glad to be able to see it now!

I remember how well respected Scott Carpenter was at that time. He was originally scheduled to be a guest speaker at my first instructor course in 1968, in Longview, Texas. His advertised participation was one of the deciding factors that led me to attend that course, and we were all greatly disappointed when he had some important mission come up that caused him to miss that. It was still a great program that I never regretted, and led me to a long career in the diving business.

I know I posted this before, but while we are on the subject of Scott Carpenter:

If anybody finds themselves in Panama City Beach, Sealab 1 is sitting in the parking lot of the Man in the sea museum. It’s completely gutted with a large hole cut in the bottom but you could stick you head up in it when I was there 5-6 years ago.

They have restored SeaLab 1 and allow people to go inside (I believe). It is repainted (and housed under a roof), and the interior restored. Google "Man in the Sea Museum, Panama City Beach, FL" and click on images. Lots of cool pics. I found an article by a guy in the UAE (his interest seemed to be about Rolex watches?) but he visited with one of the pioneers.
