A sad story

Sun Mar 20, 2011 12:18 pm

So, my sister and brother-in-law recently moved back to southern Louisiana. We stopped by their place on the way to Okaloosa Island last week. Their house is owned by a relative, and the previous occupant was an old retired Navy man who hoarded things. He had several trailers full of old tools and odds and ends in the backyard. When he died, the family cleaned out the metal working tools and then proceeded to crush and haul off the old sheds. What caught my interest was the fact that it was mentioned that there was SCUBA gear in there. I poked around the trash left in the yard, and found a couple of old Healthways tanks, and then these:

I'm pretty sure at least one double hose reg met its end under a bulldozer right there...

Very sad. Place some flowers there for me will you.

I am reminded of my main LDS where in the owner told me he regularily receives vintage gear from customers who are upgrading. He said he just throws it where it belongs, in the scrap metal yard. I told him I would buy that stuff from him and to give me a call. He never has. And I have not purchased anything (including air) from his store since.

A suburb of New Orleans. I believe the town is called Marrero, and the particular neighborhood is called Crown Point. Their property borders the Intercoastal Waterway.

My dad's side of the family came from the Opelousas and Carencro area, which is were I got the last name "Latiolais." My sister spent more time than I did in Louisiana, so she has been wanting to move back there. When she ended up marrying a man from Franklin, it became inevitable. I've always felt more at home in the Florida panhandle.

Marrero is about 25 miles from me. If you ever come down to visit her give me a heads up and maybe we meet up.

Will do. We'll likely visit once or twice a year at the least.

Given the fact that young ones have access to this site maybe it would be more appropriate to have a chalk outlining or at the least a Parental Guidance warning. I would hate for this to cause night terrors...
