What a surprise to see these posts. I've been in Indiana for the past couple of days and come back to find such kind words from the most wonderful group of diving buddies I have ever known.
Sure, I will be at portage, and will certainly bring some books. I'd love to do a book signing. It has nothing to do with diving, but has a lot to do with life and living for a young girl. To give you a little history on this book, I have worked with run a way kids for Lutheran Social Services and troubled youth for a very long time, and I still do on my own time. I had a tutoring program in Milwaukee for five years in the inner city from 1998 to 2002. I told a few tall tales to teach them history, and they begged me to write a book for them so they didn't have to carry around 'See Dick Run' books. The kids were 12-25 yrs old. So I wrote this book and the kids really liked it. I was told it was very good by a few other folks who read it and they prompted me to submit it to different publishers. Well, I received a phone call one day saying, we would like to publish your book. I thought, yeah right. Well, the rest is history. A year of hard work by the editors at Tate and myself tweaking and fixing time lines... here is the finished product.
I have also made the costuming for the main characters of the book and at my signing at the museum, I had these on display and wore 1940's clothing. I'm calling it a living history book signing. Sure makes things interesting for the folks at the book signings to see actual clothing the characters would have worn.
So, another giant Thank You, and I will see you underwater very soon. Gayle
