Mares MR12 III Second Stage Adjustment

Tue Nov 18, 2014 2:54 pm

I am overhauling a Mares MR12 III 2nd stage and having problems adjusting the lever and freeflowing. Installed a new seat, cleaned up seat orifice assembly, spring appears fine, etc but when I reassemble , the lever action seems inconsistent and freeflows. THE tech manual states something about threading the hose connector to the seat assembly leaving a certain space, but it does not make sense to me. It seems like I should just be able to tighten all the connections with the O RIngs and be able to adjust the lever?
I have worked on AMF swimmasters before with no issues. Any suggestions.
Thanks

Does it freeflow when charged with the top cover and second stage diaphragm removed?

IT does not free flow untl I start adjusting the lever height. I think the seat is fine but I am wondering if the spring is shot. The lever just does not return to the same spot when I adjust it and it free flows.

Did you leave a little "free play" in the lever before it begins to lift the seat? Sounds like you have it a little tight, and that reg needs some free play to prevent a leak when you tighten down the cover clamp.

Bill is right. The can design on those MR-12's seem to require a bit more freeplay than a Conshelf or other regulators. I emailed him about this same subject a few times when I started working on them as well. The diapgragms are trickier on those as well.
