Can the existing seat be resurfaced??? I can't find the technique in down loads, but you might find it by using the thread search. I saved a bunch of DA seats this way before they were made available by Bryan.

The white ones can be resurfaced with some 2,000 grit sand paper. The black rubber looking ones I have never been able to resurface. There is absolutely no way that you are going to find a new one unless someone has one from the 60's NOS. Also, check to make sure that it even needs to be resurfaced. Is it creeping?

Ron, how do you get them boogers out? (without distroying something)

I have a couple of them and would like to do some experimenting to see if I can make some. I have had pretty good luck making Aquarius, SP MK-2 ( and pretty much any flow by piston reg) and MK-5 seats. I should be able to reproduce the Calypso seats too if I can get one out to test.

By the way, you going to make Portage??

This may be tougher then your thinking.
It's not a seat like The MK2 or the MK5.
It looks similar to the poppets in the newer Aqualung 1st stages. No re sanding
IP pressure was fine for about 3 minuets, then she blew.
IP up over 250psi when I shut her down.
Took her apart and saw that a chunk had been blown out of the seating material.
And yep Portage on Saturday. Through the tunnel to Whittier diving Smittys Cove.
Pulling a 54ft fishing boat.
Thanks

As far as the seat goes for the piston Calypso, they made a tool for removing them, but it's pretty much worthless. I've always used air pressure to get them out like the Scubapro MK V. Don't waste your time making the seat, Bryan has it in the store.

Not a waste of time to me, it's just another excuse to makes something on the lathe...same reason I do the MK-2s and 5s. I do it because I can and I learn something in the process.

I hear you there. I like to mess around on the lathe and milling machine too.

I'm pretty sure of what the calypso seats look like. I've rebuilt several of the original ones, actually Bill Tucker has my last one and it still works. It's a pretty far cry from a conshelf seat. You just take the old seat out and sand it with some 2,000 grit. Alternately, you can grind the seat flat after taking measurements of its original length, purchase some 90 durometer viton in sheets from mcmaster-carr, cut it with a precision punch, glue it on, and dive the crap out of it. I even use nitrox in mine, according to the super glue people it is 100% inert when dry ;)

Thanks for that last reply.
I'll give that a try.
I believe I still have an account with McMaster- Carr.
Thank You again for the information on seat material.
