| Password Issues |
What if I lose my password for the cart and/or the forum? You cannot retrieve your current password, but you can reset it. You can go to the cart page and/or the forum page, hit LOGIN on either and hit the link to request a new password. You will be redirected to a page that will allow you to reset your password once you confirm your identity through an e-mail link (the e-mail will contain a link to the password reset page). Remember that your cart username is your e-mail address and your forum username is an actual username. Back to top |
| Shopping Cart and Forum Integration Issues |
Why do I need to register for the forum if I've registered for the cart? You do not, and you cannot. All forum registrations are funneled through the cart registration page. Back to top |
Why do I need to login to the forum after I login to the cart? Your logins for each area are separate. Even if you were registered through the cart as a forum member (which has been re-integrated since August 11th, 2006), you still must login separately. You must login to the cart each time you wish to use it. This is a security measure meant to safeguard your personal information. Your cart session expires every time you close the browser, although your shopping cart will retain items left in there without finalizing the purchase for a bit longer. Your forum login can be retained simply by clicking on the "Keep me logged in" box. Back to top |
| Shopping Cart Login and Registration Issues |
Why do I need to register to use the cart? Seriously, do you really need to ask that? If you do not register and login, how do you expect to give us personal information about where to ship your purchase? Your login is for your protection as well as ours. Once you register, your personal information is stored in an encrypted form in our database. Only you and the shipping and billing departments of this website will ever have access to that information. You also then have the ability to track the progress of your purchase as well as being able to return to the cart at any time for future purchases without ever having to enter any of your information again, unless you move, change your name, etc..... Back to top |
Why can't I login to the cart? Your cart login is your e-mail address plus a password that you chose when you signed up. Please remember that these are CaSe SeNsItIvE, meaning if you used "Joe@myweb.com" to sign up, you cannot login as "joe@myweb.com". your password must also match ExAcTLY Back to top |
My language is not available in the cart! Currently, the shopping cart and the forum are in English only. If we get enough requests to add more languages, we will try to do so. The problem there is that we would have no knowledge of how to edit the templates in another language, so if you are requesting a different language and can translate, we may consider talking to you about helping us with that project. Back to top |
Why can't I see my last purchase listed? Have you logged in on the cart page? The cart system automatically logs you out as soon as you close the page. Even if you just closed it for a second, or you left the cart system to visit the forum, then came back, you will need to login again. It is a security feature of the cart, there is nothing wrong. (Sometimes, if you do not visit any additional pages while in the forum section and you return to the cart section, your current session may be retained, but the forum also uses sessions and each section will override the other's session. This is not a problem for the forum since that session is retained differently, but the cart is much more secure for obvious reasons.) If you still have a problem after logging in, contact the website owner or the webmaster for help. Go HERE for contact information. Back to top |
How do I change my cart preferences? Go to the the cart main page. There is a "Login" link on the cart main page. Once logged in, you will see "MY ACCOUNT" in the header area at the top of the page. Click on that link. Follow the instructions from there. Back to top |
| Forum Login and Registration Issues |
Why can't I log in to the forum? Have you registered? Seriously, you must register for the forum in order to log in. The forum registration link will take you to the cart registration page. This is normal. Back to top |
I have registered but I still cannot log in? Have you been banned from the forum? (A message will be displayed if you have.) If so, you should contact the webmaster or forum administrator to find out why. Usually, members are only banned if they are abusive to other members, post messages of hate or threats, etc.... Back to top |
I have not been banned but I still cannot log in? If you have registered and are not banned and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your username and password. Your username is NOT your e-mail address here, it is a username, called the "Forum Nickname" you chose during registration. You must also use your forum password, which you chose when you registered for the forum. This may or may not be the same as your cart password, depending on how you registered or if you lost your password and reset it for each section of the site. Please remember that these are CaSe SeNsItIvE, meaning if you used "JoeSchmo" to sign up, you cannot login as "joeschmo". Your password must also match ExAcTLY. Usually this is the problem; if not, contact the Webmaster. Back to top |
Why do I need to register at all? Because we said so. Period. Back to top |
Why do I get logged off automatically? If you do not check the "Log me in automatically" box when you log in, the forum will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the forum from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc. Back to top |
How do I prevent my username from appearing in the online user listings? You can't. Back to top |
I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore! The most likely reasons for this are: You entered an incorrect username or password ( see above for how to reset your password, or check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account for some reason. If you are sure that you are registered and that your login information is correct, feel free to contact the forum administrator for help. Back to top |
| Forum User Preferences and settings |
How do I change my forum profile settings? All your settings are stored in the database. To alter them click the Profile link at the top of all pages in the forum section. This will allow you to change all of your settings. NOTE - You must be a registered member and be logged in to edit your profile. Back to top |
My language is not available in the forum!
The forum times are not correct! The times are almost certainly correct; however, what you may be seeing are times displayed in a timezone different from the one you are in. If this is the case, you should change your profile setting for the timezone to match your particular area, e.g. London, Paris, New York, Sydney, etc. Please note that changing the timezone, like most settings, can only be done by registered users. So if you are not registered, this is a good time to do so, if you pardon the pun! Back to top |
I changed the timezone and the time is still wrong! If you are sure you have set the timezone correctly and the time is still different, the most likely answer is daylight savings time (or summer time as it is known in the UK and other places). The forum is not designed to handle the changeovers between standard and daylight time so during summer months the time may be an hour different from the real local time. We're working on a patch for that for next summer. Back to top |
How do I show an image below my username? You can upload an avatar or choose one from our gallery. For security reasons, you can no longer link to an offsite avatar. If you have an avatar that you would like to add and you are having problems getting it uploaded to the server, contact the Webmaster, he'll be happy to assist you. Back to top |
How do I change my rank? There are no special ranks here, don't warry about it. There are only 3 levels of users here. General members, moderators and site admins. There are only 2 site admins and those 2 will most likely never change. There are a few moderators only because the forum has grown and the 2 site admins don't always have the time to keep an eye on things. There may be more moderators added in the future, but don't sit around waiting for that to happen. There are no silly ranks like "Puppy Poster" (or in the case of this forum, perhaps they would be "Guppy Poster"). Back to top |
When I click the email link for a user it asks me to log in. Sorry, but only registered users can send email to people via the built-in email form. This is to prevent malicious use of the email system by anonymous users. Back to top |
| Forum Posting Issues |
How do I post a topic in a forum? Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or topic screens. You need to register before you can post a message. The facilities available to you are listed at the bottom of the forum and topic screens (the You can post new topics, You can vote in polls, etc. list) Back to top |
How do I edit or delete a post? Unless you are a forum administrator (or in some cases, a moderator), you can't. Please choose your words carefully, you do not have the option to take them back later. Back to top |
How do I add a signature to my post? To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via your profile. Once created you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio box in your profile. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form. Back to top |
How do I create a poll? Currently, only a forum administrator has the option to create a poll. Back to top |
How do I edit or delete a poll? You can't. Back to top |
Why can't I access a forum? Some forums may be limited to certain users. For example, some forums are open only to registered users, some only to the forum administrators and moderators, some are only open to NAVED members and some are open to everyone, but all forums require you to at least be registered and logged in to post, reply or download files. Back to top |
Why can't I vote in polls? Only registered users can vote in polls so as to prevent spoofing of results. If you have registered and still cannot vote then you probably do not have appropriate access rights or there is an error in your profile or on the page. If you feel you should have rights to do any of the things in this FAQ that you cannot seem to do, please contact the Webmaster. Back to top |
| Formatting and Topic Types |
What is BBCode? BBCode is a special implementation of HTML. You can disable it on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML: tags are enclosed in square braces [ and ] rather than < and > and it offers greater control over what and how something is displayed. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page. Back to top |
Can I use HTML? Yes, but you will find only certain tags work. This is a safety feature to prevent people from abusing the forum by using tags which may destroy the layout or cause other problems. You can also disable it on a per post basis from the posting form. Back to top |
What are Smileys? Smileys, or Emoticons, are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling using a short code, e.g. :) means happy, :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smileys, though, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and an administrator may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether. Back to top |
Can I post Images? Yes. See the bottom of this page for instructions. Back to top |
What are Announcements? Announcements often contain important information and you should read them as soon as possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the forum to which they are posted. Only admins can post announcements, so if you have something important that you feel deserves an announcement, contact one of them. Back to top |
What are Sticky topics? Sticky topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements only admins can create sticky topics. Back to top |
What are Locked topics? Locked topics are set this way by a forum administrator or moderator. You cannot reply to locked topics and any poll contained inside is automatically ended. Topics may be locked for many reasons. Back to top |
| User Levels and Groups |
What are Administrators? Administrators are people assigned the highest level of control over the entire forum. These people can control all facets of forum operation which include setting permissions, banning users, creating usergroups or moderators, etc. They also have full moderator capabilities in all the forums. Back to top |
What are Moderators? Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) whose job it is to look after the running of the forums from day to day. They have the power to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally moderators are there to prevent people going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material. Back to top |
What are Usergroups? You don't need to worry about that. Currently, there are only Users, Moderators and Forum Administrators. There are no other Usergroups Back to top |
How do I join a Usergroup? You can't. If a Forum Administrator decides to make you a Moderator, you will be added to the Moderators Usergroup. There are no other Usergroups to which you could be added. Back to top |
How do I become a Usergroup Moderator? Since there are no Usergroups other than Moderators and Administrators, you cannot be a Usergroup moderator. Back to top |
| Printer-Friendly Topic View |
What is the :| |: button for? - Cancelling the board's pagination By clicking on this button you can locally remove the board's fixed pagination for the current topic to help your web browser do the proper pagination for printing based on actual line spacing, rather than the forum-wide limit for number of messages per page. Back to top |
What are the boxes on top of the printable output? - Range selection There are two boxes on top of the page and a tape-recorder-like button Show. They allow to select a range of messages. Note that every message in the printable view has a number. Use those numbers to fill out the boxes on top to set up the first and the last message you want to be printed, and press the Show button to rearrange the messages. Another way to set a range is to put a negative number in the second box, which will mean that you want -n of messages to be printed. For example, 4 7 will output messages 4, 5, 6, 7. However if you enter values 4 -7 in first and second box respectively, messages 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 will be shown after you press the rewind button. Back to top |
How to print only one message? - Advanced range selection First, go to the printable view of the topic by pressing the Printer button in the topic view. Find your message and note the number in the left of it. Type that number into the first box in the top left of the printable view. In the second box put value -1 and press the Show button. This will tell the database to output only one message starting from the given one. Another way of getting this result is by putting the same number in both boxes. Let's say you want to print only the message number 16. Fill out the boxes in the top as such: 16 -1 and press the go button Show. Instead of 16 and -1 you could as well enter 16 and 16. The result will be the same. This example will work only if there are at least sixteen messages in the current topic, of course. Back to top |
More questions? Contact the Forum Administrator or the Webmaster. Back to top |
| Private Messaging |
I cannot send private messages! There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not logged on, the forum administrator has disabled private messaging for the entire forum, or the forum administrator has prevented you individually from sending messages. If it is the latter case you should try asking an administrator why. Back to top |
I keep getting unwanted private messages! In the future we will be adding an ignore list to the private messaging system. For now, though, if you keep receiving unwanted private messages from someone, inform the forum administrator -- they have the power to prevent a user from sending private messages at all. Back to top |
I have received a spamming or abusive email from someone on this forum! We are sorry to hear that. The email form feature of this forum includes safeguards to try to track users who send such posts. You should email the forum administrator with a full copy of the email you received and it is very important this include the headers (these list details of the user that sent the email). They can then take action. If you do not know how to copy the header information, ask. We will be more than happy to assist you. Back to top |
| Image Attachments |
Which file extensions are able to be uploaded? Currently, we only allow JPG and GIF image files to be uploaded to the server. We may add other file types in the future, but each poses a different security risk, so we need to be careful. Back to top |
How do I add an image to my post? You can add images when you post a new post. You should see the Add an Attachment form below the main posting box. When you click the Browse... button the standard Open dialogue window for your computer will open. Browse to the image you want to attach, select it and click OK, Open or double-click according to your liking and/or the correct procedure for your computer. If you choose to add a comment in the File Comment field this comment will be used as a link to the attached image. If you haven't added a comment, the filename itself will be used to link to the image. Remember to click on "ADD ATTACHMENT" DO NOT HIT SUBMIT YET. The page will refresh and the image will then show up in the post as a file name, you will not see the image until after your post is submitted. If you get any error messages, you will have a chance to make your corrections before attempting to submit your message. once everything is OK, hit "Submit" to submit your message.
The forum administrator sets an upper limit for filesize, defined file extensions and other things for images on the forum. Be aware that it's your responsiblity that your images comply with the forum's acceptance of use policy, and that they may be deleted without warning.
Please note that the forum's owner and/or webmaster can not and will not take responsibility for any loss of data. Back to top |
How do I add an image after the initial posting? To add an image after the initial posting you'll need to reply to your post and add your image there. Follow the instructions above. The image will be added when you click Submit to add the reply. Back to top |
How do I delete images? See the next two answers. Back to top |
How do I delete an image from a post? You can't. Editing of posts is not permitted. Self-edited posts are not allowed here due to a past user abusing this priveledge. Ask the forum administrator and they will assist you. Back to top |
How do I delete an image from my profile? Go to your profile through the "Memberlist" page, not through the Profile link on every page. You will see a slightly different page than the Profile Page you see when clicking on "Profile". Click on "User Attachment Control Panel". You can select which images you want to delete from there. Back to top |
How do I update a file comment? To update a file comment you'll need to reply to your post. You cannot edit posts here. Self-edited posts are not allowed here due to a past user abusing this priveledge. Back to top |
Why isn't my image visible in the post? Most probably the file or Extension is not allowed on the forum, or the administrator has deleted it for being in conflict with the forum's acceptance of use policy, or there was a problem with the upload. See below for more information on uploading problems Back to top |
Why can't I add images? You must be a registered user and you must be logged in. Also, in some forums adding images may be limited to certain users such as administrators only. Back to top |
I've got the necessary permissions, why can't I add images? The forum administrator sets an upper limit for filesize, file extensions and other things for images on the forum. There is a file size limit for each image, which is 256K. Also, each user has an overall limit of 512K. An administrator may have altered your permissions, or discontinued images in the specific forum. You should get an explanation in the error message when trying to add an image, if not you might consider contacting the forum administrator. If you reach your upload quota, you will have to delete images from your profile.
There are a few problems you can look for before asking for help:
1. Your images are too large to upload. There is server limit of 256K for each file being uploaded.
2. You have reached your quota. Each user has an upload limit of 512K.
3. You have spaces in your filename. The server will reject any file with spaces in the file name. Try to use only alphanumeric characters as well. file1.jpg is fine, file#1.jpg will be rejected.
4. This one is the most likely culprit... You are forgetting to hit "Add Attachment" and are instead hitting "Submit". 9 times out of 10, this is the cause of not uploading a file attachment. Back to top |
Why can't I view/download images? You can only download images if you are logged in. Also, your browser may be incapable of viewing or downloading images. Back to top |
Who do I contact about illegal or possibly illegal images? You should contact the administrator of this forum. Back to top |
