High Pressure seat re-surfacing.
This works great on DA Aqua-Master and Mistral seats that leak due to the
nylon seat surface not setting squarely on the cone in the nozzle.
You will need:
Patience
Dremel, or other rotary tool.
1200 grit wet/dry paper or red
emery paper.
If you are doing a Mistral HP seat you will need to put a couple of turns of
tape around the mandrel to make the seat fit tightly inside it.
If you are doing an Aqua-Master seat you can simply chuck it right into the
rotary tool.
Next take your paper and secure it tightly to a flat hard surface. Glass is best
but lots of other surfaces will work just fine. Surface cannot flex or distort
when pressing on it. Use the rotary tool on low speed. Remember you are dealing
with brass and nylon so go easy!!! Slowly and evenly bring the seat in
contact with the paper.
This is where patience comes in. Only put the seat and paper in contact with each other for a few moments. Then shut the tool off and check the seat. If the groove is gone, you are done. If not give it another turn on the paper. It usually takes me 8-10 turns on the paper to get a seat completely smooth. When you are done give it a good wash in soap and water and re-install.
I am doing my best to have these seats reproduced, but right now it is
virtually impossible to come by NOS seats.
I have used this process on dozens of seats with much success. Your results
may vary! I will not be responsible for replacing your HP seat if you ruin it!
Take your time and be patient.
